During the life of Dad's Army, there were
many spin-offs from the series and film. There were annuals,
board games, jigsaws, cigarette cards and much, much more. If anyone can provide details of Dad's Army
memorabilia produced, could they please contact me.

Thanks to Mike Geraghty I am now the proud owner of all six!

Dad's Army Jigsaws
There were at least 10 jigsaws produced by Whitman Publishing.
The pictures were stills taken from the series and the film.

Dad's Army Board Games
There were two board games. The first was a promotion in
1971 by Ovaltine and the object of the game was to get back to the
Church Hall.
The second was produced three years later by Denys Fisher. This
game was quite complicated and involved players having to get to a
certain point without getting "Hodged"!

Dad's Army Model Vehicles
Lledo plc, have produced various models, some in sets, from the
series. There were two sets.
Initially, Jones' van was released on it's own. It was then
re-released and accompanied by four other vehicles as part of a
"Home Front Collection".
The four vehicles were 1934 Queens Messenger
Food Flying Squad Convoy Mack Truck, 1934 National Fire Service Dennis
Fire Engine, 1932 BBC Outside Broadcast Recording Dennis Limousine and
a 1934 Salvation Army Dennis Mobile Canteen. Although given the Dads
Army tag, these vehicles were not seen in the series.
I was also lucky enough to get Clive Dunn to sign the authenticity
certificate for one of my vans! See picture below.

The second set "Radio Times Dad's Army Series" had Jones' and
Hodges' vans, a Walmington-On-Sea taxi, a Walmington newspaper
delivery van and an LDV truck. Only the first two had a direct
link to the series.
Corgi announced the release of two models in July/August
2000. They are Jones' butchers van (Thorneycroft) and Hodges'
grocer's van (Bedford 0 Series) and are 1:50 scale. Each come
with figures of their owners. Priced at £19.99.

World War II Figures by Foundry
A British company, Foundry, produce hundreds of different types of
wargaming figures. Among their collections are some World War II sets
in which the figures look exactly like Dad's Army characters.
Sets of these figures are available for sale online at their web site,
for about £8.50 UK.
Go to
http://www.wargamesfoundry.com/ for more
details. Note, some of their web site pages take an awful long
time to download due to lots of graphics.
Although the pictures below show painted figures, the sets actually
come unpainted. Click on pictures to see larger images.

Dad's Army Chess Set
Taran Rhuddlan has created a chess set using Dad's Army characters.

Taran says:
"The Dad's Army Chess was born out of an idea of having a Chess Set for
myself that has not been done before and on a subject that I love. Namely
Dad's Army.
From the outset I had decided that there had to be the
rivals from the series on either side of the set. Hence Captain
Mainwaring's magnificent seven against the ARP Hodges and Reverends lot.
The pieces are also available as individual collectors pieces; either
natural/antiqued finish or hand painted.
All sets will be issued as limited editions and will have a 'certificate
of authenticity'.
The line up of the pieces are:
White Side
King - Capt Mainwaring
Queen - Sgt Wilson
Bishop - Frazier (Undertaker)
Knight - Jones (Butcher)
Rook - Pvt. Godfrey
Pawn 1 - Pvt Pike
Pawn 2 - Walker (Spiv)
Brown Side
King - ARP Hodges
Queen - Vicar
Bishop - Verger
Knight - U.Boat Captain
Rook - Cpt Ogilvie
Pawn 1 - Mrs. Pike
Pawn 2 - German Sailor
The above is the set so far. I shall be making more as
collectable pieces or substitute chess pieces.
The selling price for antiqued individual characters is £5.
The selling price for painted individual characters is
£7.50.
The selling price for antiqued chess set is £150.
The selling price for painted chess set is £250.
Post and packing at cost."
*Note that these prices are subject to change.

Dad's Army Postcards
My attention was drawn to these postcards by Dad's Army fan John Brandom.
The postcards were drawn by art student Jo Greenhalgh. They really are
excellent and if you click on the right-hand thumbnail below, you can see a
good close-up. The real postcards measure 150 x 105 mm in size.

Jo is selling these postcards in sets of eight. For details of how to
buy them, and to hear how and why Jo made these postcards, go
here. Please mention "Whispers From
Walmington".
Dad's Army Limited Edition Prints
Steve Lilly is a portrait artist working predominately in graphite
and have produced a series of limited edition prints entitled Comedy
Classics...Dads Army being one of the series. They really are superb.

For details of how to
buy them go here.
Be sure to mention "Whispers From Walmington".
