I had started to design a map for this web
site based on the
dialogue of the programmes. However, having
purchased "Dad's Army - The Making
of a Television Legend" by Bill Pertwee, I was relieved to
see an excellent map of Walmington-On-Sea drawn by Paul Carpenter.
It is based on Chalfont St Giles which is situated in
Buckinghamshire and was the location of 'Dad's
Army - The Movie'.
A description of Walmington-on-Sea can be found
here.
Among the many attractions are:
Novelty Rock Emporium (A key part of the defensive
strategy of Walmington-On-Sea) (26)
Marigold Tea Rooms (scene of much gossip and scandal) (10)
Stone's Amusement Arcade (25)
14 Public Houses (All tried and tested by Sgt Wilson) (86-99)
British Restaurant (I recommend the Toad-in-the-Hole) (7)
Two Cinemas (Scene of many grapples involving L/Cpl Jones and Mrs Fox) (28,
47)
Jolly Roger Ice Cream Parlour (59)
Charlie's Cafe (30)
Fish & Chip Restaurant (8)
Ann's Pantry (9)
A Milk Bar (41)
A Darby & Joan Club (45)
A British Legion Hall (68)
Victoria & Albert Memorial Rose Gardens (63)
A Pier (Blown up in middle as an anti-invasion measure)
The numbers in brackets indicate location on map

This
map has been reproduced with the kind permission of Paul. It is part
of a full colour laminated map that he has designed. His map
includes an index on the reverse giving details of all of the buildings (red
numbers) and street names. I have only shown 28 locations, Paul's
map shows over a 100. Maps may be purchased from
him. Check out the merchandise page of the
Dad's
Army Appreciation Society for more details or email him at:
